Photography students are focus of Upper Crust exhibit
Select works from Owens Campus photography students will soon be adorning the walls of The Upper Crust in Georgetown, starting Monday, Dec. 5.
Select works will be featured at the café from the Fall semester’s Photography class, led by instructor Keith Mosher. The photos will continue to be displayed at the cafe until January 6. During this time, the public will be able to view, and even purchase, the photographs and all money will go directly to the artist.
Keith Mosher said holding an off-campus exhibit is a great opportunity for students to get more exposure and teach them how to display their work to the public.
This is the second year the photography class is displaying works at the café. Communications student Kristi Rohrbaugh displayed work in last year’s exhibit and saw the benefit of the exposure outside the college. “The exhibit was a great experience and opportunity for me and my fellow students to showcase our work in the public eye,” she said. “Knowing that our photos were to be displayed and available for purchase pushed us to work even harder. The sale of my work took a while to sink in, but it was a great feeling to know somebody out there appreciated it.”
The Upper Crust, located at 7 E. Market Street, has been an advocate for local artists for years and have designated a wall to offer gallery space to support area and regional artwork, including works from Abaxis and Kevin Fleming, and is the “birthplace of the Historic Georgetown Art Crawl.”
The Upper Crust serves made-from-scratch baked goods, fair trade organic coffee, breakfast and lunch in a casual setting. For more information about the café or any other upcoming art events, visit their website at theuppercrust.info, email email@example.com or call 302.856.2300.

The Upper Crust, “Coffee shop and more…”, at 7 E. Market Street in Georgetown DE is pleased to present Charis Martin’s exhibit at their cafe. The exhibit goes until Friday, January 6, 2016 and is running concurrently with Delaware Technical Art Department Students. There is no charge for the event.
Delaware native, Charis Martin has a passion for Art and the emotion it evokes from others. Charis has been in the art world for awhile, studying at Southern Delaware School of the Arts in middle school and is now a Design Studies major at West Virginia University where she focuses on creative problem solving.
Martin is from Lewes, Delaware and went to Cape Hanlopen High School. In the spring of 2016, she took a traveling photography class studying abroad in Stellenbosh, South Africa where she was inspired to get more serious about photography. During her time abroad, she was drawn into taking pictures of the vibrant colors of the houses, the exotic food, animals, and how culturally diverse it was.
Her inspiration will continue this coming spring, when she finishes her last semester of college studying abroad in Canterbury, United Kingdom.

THE NEXT EXHIBIT
The Upper Crust Cafe of 7 East Market Street, Georgetown, DE is honored to announce "The Water’s Edge", an oil painting exhibit by Delaware Artist, Martha Pileggi. The Upper Crust will hold a meet the artist reception on Wednesday, January 18, 1917 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM and the exhibit will run From January 9, 2017 through February 10, 2017.
"The Water’s Edge" represents Martha’s dedication to landscape painting and the various lands that border water, inclusive of marshes, beaches, lakes, streams, bogs, ponds and rivers throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. The majority of the paintings were painted "Plein Air". Martha paints Plein Air (on site outside) as much as possible reserving only the coldest and hottest days for studio painting. Paintings vary in size from 8 x 10" to 12 x 16" and all are reasonably priced and available for purchase. We on Delmarva are lucky to have such beautiful views in our parks, wetlands and beaches. You can go from deep woods to beaches in a matter of minutes. The variety is amazing." Martha paints with 6 different Plein Air painting groups from Delaware and Maryland during the summer months and continues painting during spring, fall and winter. She also takes part in many of the local Plein Air paint out events including: Snow Hill, Chestertown, Ocean City, and Berlin. She shows her work at Chestertown River Arts Gallery and other local galleries during special exhibits.
Martha also investigates many spots to paint on her own and has found many out of the way places to quietly spend the day painting. Her van is a moving studio containing all the equipment necessary to paint in all types of weather. Martha uses only the best art materials and paints. When outdoors, Martha paints on birch panels that she prepares with three coats of shellac and two coats of gesso or oil ground.
Martha relocated to Milford, DE in 1980 for an Advertising position, she has been painting and showing fine art in Delmarva since 1985. Originally known for her hand-painted tiles, sinks, and watercolors she has also worked in etching, pastels, block printing, and jewelry making. Now she concentrates her time and effort on oil painting. She has had many solo art shows throughout the years, the last one in Dover in early 2016 contained 72 paintings of the Penninsula. Martha continually tries to improve her art by taking painting workshops from many local masters throughout the year.
Please join Martha, Bruce and Chuck for a reception on January 18th, or stop by The Upper Crust Monday through Friday - 7 AM to 3PM to have a pastry, warm drink and enjoy the art during the cold January days.
